RELEASE DATE: Apr 04, 2024
TIMBERLAND AND CONCEPTKICKS CONSTRUCT 10061 COLLECTION

THE COLLECTION REWORKS TIMBERLAND ICONS AND CHALLENGES CONVENTION FOR TRUE FOOTWEAR INNOVATION

April 4 2024: Following the last CONSTRUCT:10061 workshop, Timberland and CONCEPTKICKS will launch a limited release collection selling exclusively through HYPEBEAST. The collaboration brings together footwear innovators and creators from around the world to push the boundaries of boot making, resulting in five new TECTRA-inspired (technical transparency) silhouettes within a single-color palette, called “Cosmic latte”. This exclusive collection marks the first time that CONSTRUCT:10061 products will be made available online to consumers.

CONSTRUCT:10061 came to fruition between Timberland and CONCEPTKICKS in 2018, where the two worked in collaboration to explore and conceptualize footwear innovation, bringing together cross-industry designers to challenge convention. The annual CONSTRUCT:10061 maker events aim to lift the lid on the often-guarded innovations of footwear by highlighting the raw process of product creation and development and result in bespoke one-of-one creations.

The backdrop for the last makers event was at The Shed—Timberland’s unique New Hampshire-based prototyping lab, which tests the limits of footwear design. Thespace was spearheaded by Timberland’s Advanced Concepts & Energy team, elevating Timberland’s innovation capabilities—including establishing new 3-D digital prototyping capabilities with on-site injection molding, leather pattern cutting, quad stitching, embossing and more.

The Timberland CONSTRUCT:10061 collection features five limited release styles that were created at the last makers workshop, which will sell exclusively through Earth Month to highlight the eco-innovation and contemporary design built into each boot. Featuring premium Timberland materials for lasting durability and quality, as well as responsible materials like ReBOTL™ fabric lining and biobased Dyneema® textiles and uppers.

“Our workshop with Timberland has always focused on pushing the boot-making process through the cross-pollination of industries. This mixing of perspectives creates an environment where unexpected innovation and product solutions can flourish,” shared Daniel Bailey, founder and creative director of CONCEPTKICKS.

Highlighting the works of a diverse group of designers, makers and innovator, the release features original designs by Téla D’Amore, Jaimus Tailor, Jesus Diaz, Daniel Bailey, and John Chen. Each of these designers brings their unique perspective to each silhouette, elevating the works from the previous CONSTRUCT:10061 workshops with an even bolder approach.

Fans of the Timberland brand may recognize new iterations of their favorite styles, like the C61 Stacked 10-Inch Boot, designed by Téla D’Amore which plays off the original Super Boot with an elongated collar and an extra stacked EVA sole. The addition of wrapped leather laces around the instep of the boot provides a contemporary touch to this utility driven silhouette.

The C61 Gen Extender Boot, designed by CONCEPTKICKS’ own John Chen, offers an adjustable silhouette through its extendable layered upper. The collapsible nature of the boot is a slight nod to the iconic paper light structures by Isamu Noguchi. It offers the user a multitude of states to style the shoe from mid to high, structured to slouchy.

Jaimus Tailor, founder of upcycling brand Greater Goods, designed the C61 Woven Clog, harnessing an outdoor attitude with hand finished sentiments. The upper is made from a woven fabric made from individual strips of nylon webbing and a neoprene collar provides the form fitting lockdown for the clog.

The Euro Hiker-inspired C61 Neo Veil Hiker, designed by Daniel Bailey and Jesus Diaz, transforms the iconic Euro Hiker with an external Lycra® shroud. The construction of the boot creates a unique visual interest and blurs the line between the upper and sole junction. This is highlighted prominently in the transition between a square outsole to rounded toe.

And lastly, the C61 Dy-Tec World Hiker, designed by Daniel Bailey and John Chen, is a material study of technicality within an iconic silhouette. The boot is constructed from a biobased Dyneema® upper which sandwiches a spacer mesh. A climbing rubber has been used around the toe to provide additional structure and volume to the chunky Vibram® Bristol outsole.

The CONSTRUCT:10061 collection will launch on April 4 and be sold exclusively through HYPEBEAST online.
