TIMBERLAND & HENDER SCHEME: TIMBERLAND’S 3-EYE LUG BOAT SHOE IS REIMAGINED THROUGH LENS OF METICULOUS CRAFTSMANSHIP AND MATERIAL INNOVATION

VEG-TANNED LEATHER SOURCED FROM JAPANESE TANNERY DEVELOPS DISTINCT PATINA OVER TIME; NO TWO PAIRS ARE ALIKE

March 10,2025: For the first time ever, global lifestyle brand Timberland has teamed up with Hender Scheme, a Tokyo-based purveyor of artisan footwear and leather goods to reimagine Timberland’s iconic 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe. The collaboration, which launches March 21st, reflects an avant-garde approach that blends premium leather innovation with meticulous attention to detail, bringing a flair of modernity to a heritage silhouette.

Celebrating the art of wear in typical Hender Scheme fashion, the Timberland® & Hender Scheme Authentic 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe features authentic veg-tanned leather sourced by Hender Scheme from a local Japanese tannery, and a thoughtfully reimagined design that highlights materiality and detail. The untreated full-grain leather develops a distinct patina over time, such that no two pairs are alike. It begins as a light beige and takes on richer, deeper hues with continued wear for the ultimate in individual style expression. A playful leather kiltie tassel completes the look.

The collaboration further showcases Hender Scheme’s expertise in leather craftsmanship through a unique design twist: the eyelets that appear to be metal are in fact cleverly embossed into the leather. This subtle yet innovative detail exemplifies the brand's deep understanding of material manipulation. Veg-tanned leather pairs well with this type of processing; by leveraging these qualities, the brand continues to create products that highlight the natural beauty and versatility of leather.

ABOUT HENDER SCHEME

Launched in 2010 in Asakusa, Tokyo, Hender Scheme creates leather shoes, bags, accessories and objects.

Hender Scheme practices “NEW CRAFT” - the brand’s creative attitude of new craftsmanship, where its contemporary ideas are realized through the knowledge, experience and techniques of artisans. The brand removes the limits and constraints of theme, season and categorization, allowing it to pursue ideas and design with freedom. Hender Scheme’s approach extends beyond the boundaries of mode, craft, industry, and art - designing the process of how the products are made and how they are used, not only the product itself. Materials are passed from craftsman to craftsman, in the process becoming a product. Through the passage of time and through usage each unique item is completed by its owner.
